Depression and Anxiety  I have around 14 years of experience working with individuals (both children and adults) suffering from depression and anxiety. In my practice I use a proven type of therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist clients with improving distorted thinking that can be a precursor to depressive and anxious feelings and behaviors.  I believe in using scientifically-proven methods to assist clients, and have found this type of therapy to be the most beneficial to clients throughout the years.  I might also recommend intervention with your family doctor for medication to treat these disorders, only if you are comfortable with taking medication.  Medication can be very helpful when it comes to both disorders.  Lifestyle changes and other more naturopathic treatments can also be beneficial.

Children with Mental Health Needs and Parents needing assistance with managing their child’s behavior   I have over 17 years of experience working with children with special needs suffering from diagnoses ranging from ADHD, ODD, Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Trauma and Behavioral Problems.  I believe in working closely with parents, teaching them proven techniques to assist in better dealing with and understanding their child’s disorder.  I also work in educating parents about their children and their disorders so they are able to see “through their child’s eyes” and gain perspective.  I use techniques from books written by proven leaders in the field of child psychology.

Grief and Loss  I have about 15 years of experience working with individuals dealing with grief and loss issues such as sibling loss, child loss, miscarriage, infertility, spouse loss, and other types of loss.  I assist individuals with understanding the grief process and give space for individuals to be with their feelings by normalizing their feelings and offering a supportive and empathetic ear.

Birthparent Issues (Birthparents are women and men who have placed children for adoption)  In my work, I assist them with their related feelings, which often include grief and loss.  I have 7 years experience working with birthparents doing pre and post-placement counseling and I have a unique compassion and empathy for birthparents.  I work to assist birthparents with old hurts, unresolved grief, and processing of feelings so they can lead a healthier and happier life.
